Mechanisation to boost agri-sector in Mizoram

Aizawl, Aug 18(UNI) Mizoram government has emphasised on mechanisation methods for farmland preparation to achieve self-sufficiency in agricultural production.

Speaking at the first Mizoram Intodelh Project(MIP) Apex Body meeting here today Chief minister Zoramthanga hoped that the mechanisation would help the state towards acheiving self-sufficiency in agricultural production.

He stated that the state's objective of becoming self-reliant on agricultural produce is yet to be achieved and that different avenues, would help in this respect were being explored.

''Mechanisation in preparing lands for farming would greatly boost production in the agriculture and we believe the mechanisation doing away with the need to import these produce from outside the state,'' Chief Minister added.

He pointed out that the economic measures taken in the area of agriculture and horticulture produce saying the government had taken up in earnest passion fruit, grape, red palm oil production as well as bamboo processing plants to boost economy of the state.

Speaking in the meeting Agriculture and Horticulture Minister H Rammawi stressed the need to take up a new and more profitable pattern of farming.

The meeting was convened with the object of coming up with new ideas and schemes on how best self-sufficieny could be achieved by the state. All ministers and concerned legislators as well as the Assembly Speaker were present in the meeting.
