Lottery draw evokes reactions, agitation on anvil

Itanagar, Aug 18 (UNI) 'Unfair draw' of a lottery during Independence Day has become the bone of contention between the lottery committee and the people.

Meanwhile, the apex students' organisation of the state All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has asked the committee to look into the matter seriously to deliver justice at the earliest.

The draw of the lottery had snowballed into a major crisis in the state capital as many people, who purchased tickets, alleged that the draw was made through 'unfair means' without following the guidelines and all the prizes have been won by the committee's members.

They have also demanded for re-schedule of the game.

AAPSU president Kanu Bagang in a statement here today had accused the committee of violating the norms of the draw and organisation of the draw contrary to the venue and time mentioned in the ticket.

It was a matter of deception and breach of public trust in which thousands of innocent people have been affected, the union observed adding it was not a question of public money, but such irresponsible act of the organiser had affected the prestige and reputation of the institution.

Many of the people bought tickets voluntarily just because the lottery was organised in the name of Donyi Polo Vidya Bhawan, a reputed instition of the state.

While appealing the people of the state to fight unitedly aginst the injustice and corruption, the union said, the people should be conscious about their rights and be ready to fight against any form of injustice in future.

However, the organiser claimed that the draw was conducted in right perspective and the venue was changed for security reason.

Meanwhile, the aggrieved people who formed a committee, has decided to call a 12-hour capital bandh on August 21 next against the 'unfair draw' of the raffle. The committee also threatened to call phase-wise bandh if its demand was not responded positively.
