Kalam holds meeting with VCs
Jalandhar, Aug 17 (UNI) President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam today called on Vice Chancellors of various universities of the state to harness spirits of service from overseas Indians (NRIs) for reinforcing the existing university system for higher level of capacity building.
Addressing the VCs at a meeting in the KMV campus here this evening, Dr Kalam praised the NRIs for contributing to the homeland for this cause.
He said that several educational institutions and complex had been set up by these NRIs in different districts of the state.
Lord Swaraj Paul had created a school of excellence in manufacturing and material sciences as part of the Punjab Technical University (PTU).
He also praised Baba Bhat Singh Trust at Padhiana village in Hoshiarpur for providing education from primary level to professional courses in nursing, engineering and pharmaceuticals at an affordable cost to rural people. Another insitution had come up at Dalwandi Sabo near Jalandhar through donation by NRIs of that region, the President observed.
The President stressed on the need for building moral leadership in students and underlined the importance of research projects at university level.
Stressing for greater partnership development mission, Dr Kalam said that universities should be actively involved in interlinking of rivers task force and be partners of this mega project.
