Imposition of section 144 extended in Kupwara
Srinagar, Aug 18: Jammu and Kashmir government has extended the imposition of section 144 of CrPC by two more months in the frontier district of Kupwara, once the hub of militants.
An order issued by the District Magistrate Kupwara Abdul Majid said that restrictions will remain in force throughout the district, with immediate effect.
There is also night curfew in the five km border belt near the Line of Control (LoC) in the entire north Kashmir to foil any militant attempt to infiltrate into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) under the cover of darkness.
For villagers living within the five km distance have been advised that in case of emergency they can move out of their homes with lantern or any other kind of light so that security forces deployed in the area could provide help to them.
Similar instructions have also been issued to villagers living away from the border.
This has been done to avoid any firing by troops due to mistaken identity.
However, more than half a dozen persons were killed by the security forces due to mistaken identity in the valley after they moved out of their homes without any lantern during the night.
