Govt clarifies I-Day row in Tuensang

Kohima, Aug 18 (UNI) Taking the cognizance of various reports regarding the non-observance of Independence Day in Tuensang district headquarters, the Nagaland Government has issued a clarification over the matter.

Nagaland Principal Secretary Banuo Z Jamir, in a release here today, clarified that on the I-Day, an unruly situation near the venue of celebrations in the district prevented the chief guest to enter the venue of the Independence Day programme.

Mrs Jamir said the agitation was related to a land dispute concerning Tobu town under Mon district and had nothing to do with the I-Day.

The district administration, therefore, changed the venue of the programme, she added.

Transport Minister Imtilemba Sangtam hoisted the national flag and observed all necessary formalities in presence of district administration officials and public leaders, she further added.

The release said that this was done in order to avoid any untoward situation on I-Day.
