Ganga Hospital MoU with Washington University
Coimbatore, Aug 18: Washington University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the city-based Ganga Hospital to provide training to American doctors in hand and reconstructive micro-surgery.
The agreement was signed by Dr Larry J shapiro, Executive Vice-Chancellor and Dean, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, and Dr S Raja Sabapathy, Director and Head, Plastic Hand and Reconstructive Micro-surgery Department, Ganga hospital.
Under this training programme, Dr S Raja Sabapathy assumed educational and supervisory responsibility for American trainees at the hospital. This training would be recognised by the American Council for Graduate Medical Education and residency review committee.
Dr Raja Sabapathy, while explaining the MoU said this was the first time an American university had entered into an agreement with an Indian hospital for training their post graduates in hand and reconstructive micro-surgery. Under this agreement, there would be regular flow of American doctors, who would be trained in this hospital, a release here said.
The American Doctors would undergo supervised training and they would be exposed to clinical and didactic experience in advance hand and reconstructive micro surgery including replantation surgery.
They would be provided all educational facilities available in this hospital, he added.
Washington University in St. Louis, founded in 1853 was an independent research university and was considered among the world's leading teaching and research institutes.
