Chopra tied 61st after opening round at PGA Championship
Medinah, Illinois, Aug 18 (UNI) Daniel Chopra recovered from a poor start for a creditable level-par card, which left him tied for the 61st spot after the opening round of the 65,00,000 dollar PGA Championship here.
Playing his back nine first, the Indian-born Swede got off to a disastrous start at the tough Medinah Coutnry Club as he dropped a double-bogey on the 10th. He slid further with a dropped shot on the next hole.
Chopra arrested the slide by firing birdies on the 14th and 17th and recovered from the bad start.
One-over at the halfway mark, the Swede's form improved further as he gained a shot on the second but a bogey on the sixth pulled him back.
Chopra, however, ended the day on a high as he fired a ninth-hole birdie.
Meanwhile, Ryder Cup hopeful American Lucas Glover stole the limelight from his illustrious compatriots Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson and took the opening day lead with a sizzling six-under 66 card.
Glover was joined by compatriot Chris Riley at the top of the leaderboard and Billy Andrade follwed the two a shot behind at the third spot.
Woods and Mickelsen were tied for the 10th position with identical cards of three-under 69.
