Century old paintings of Bengal art on auction
Kolkata, Aug 18 (UNI) Bengal has been associated with liberal and contemporary arts since time immemorial and the Bengal art movement has been one of the foremost movements in the country.
The Bengal school of art dates back to the 19th century, where the Tagores spearheaded the literary work and it snowballed into a way of life.
Century old paintings by Abanindranath Tagore, Rabindranath Tagore, Jamini Roy, Hemen Mazumdar and many more artists of that league were displayed in the city by Chennai-based Apparaoart galleries.
The exhibition had some of the rarest collections by these legendary painters which were kept for auctions to be held on September 2 and 3, said Sharan Apparao, the owner of the Gallery.
He said the main idea of the auction is to showcase the collection of the Bengal arts and trace the story of the evolution of the art in this region.
The auctions would start on September 2 and close at 7 pm on September 3. All the auctions would be done online at www.apparaoart.com, Mr Sharan added.
The paintings ranged from Rs ten thousands to about Rs 80 lakhs, emphasising their place in the history of the movement of art and pointing out their significance.
