'Agriculture to play vital role for increasing GDP'
Patna, Aug 18: Outlining the contribution of agriculture sector in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the state, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today stressed on the need of tapping the abundant water resources to augment production in agriculture and fisheries sector.
Addressing a function here on the occasion of sending a group of 40 fishermen to Andhra Pradesh for training in fisheries, the Chief Minister said that agriculture could play a vital role in increasing the GDP of the state.
Despite hard work, our farmers continued to lag behind in agricultural production due to application of unscientific modus operandi, he said, adding steps were being taken to make them aware about the latest technological advancement.
Mr Kumar said there was ample scope to boost the production in fisheries sector and state government would make arrangements for the training of around 35000 fishermen in the next three years which would help them to better utilise available resources in the state.
