33 per cents AIDS patients in India are in 15-29 age group

New Delhi, Aug 18 (UNI) About 33 per cent of the AIDS patients in India are youth in the 15-29 age group, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Panabaka Lakshmi informed the Rajya Sabha today.

In a written reply, Mrs Lakshmi said that the Railway Ministry and NACO ae considering a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for creating awareness about AIDS through Red Ribbon Express (RRE) programme.

The RRE plan, to be finalised shortly, will be widely publicised through media, she added.

In reply to another question, the Minister said the maximum number of HIV cases during the past two years were reported from Uttar Pradesh followed by Haryana and Punjab.
