Troops seize illegal timber

Imphal, Aug 17 (UNI) Adding momentum to relentless efforts of preserving ecology of the state, troops of 32 Assam Rifles seized 70 tonnes of illegal timber during the past 24 hours.

During random check of vehicles, troops intercepted three trucks at Thoubal district.

''About 70 tons of illegal timber was being smuggled out of the area last evening. Truck owner and other occupants were nabbed,'' the official sources said.

Trucks along with the seized timber and occupants were handed over to District Forest Office at Imphal, the PRO of Assam Rifles said.
