Sri Lanka cubs win cricket series

Kurukshetra, Aug 17 (UNI) The Sri Lankan cubs gave a crushing defeat to the Kurukshetra District Cricket team by 8 wickets to win the 5-match Indian series.

The Sri Lankan cubs have now won three of the four matches played so far in the series. Apart from today's match, they won the games held in Chennai and Dehradun. The visitors lost only one match held in Delhi.

Manju Lal with 36 runs was at the crease when the Sri Lankan team Sri Lankan team scored 100 runs for the loss of two wickets to beat the Kurukshetra team who scored 97 in the limited 20-over match played at the Kurukshetra University Sports Complex here today.

The Sri Lankans arrived here in a chartered bus from Delhi this morning and finished its job by noon. However in the afternoon, the Sri Lankan team had a friendly match with the club team.

Kurukshetra team, captained by Kumar Goldy won the toss and chose to bat first. Ashok Kumar scored the highest 28 runs with the team scoring a total of 97 only.

The Sri Lankan team started its batting with a bang with Suranga Rantunga scoring 15 runs in 5 balls. Rinku Golan of Kurukshetra gave 24 runs to the Sri lankan cubs in just one over.

The final match will be played in Pondicherry next week.

Talking to UNI, Sri Lankan team manager L B Michael said the five-match series was aimed at inculcating friendly relations among the sportspersons of the countries.
