Peace nogotiator Phukan leaves for Delhi for talks with Centre
Guwahati, Aug 17 (UNI) The much awaited talks between ULFA's representatives--Mamoni Raison Goswami and Reboti Phukan--and senior Union government officials-are expected to be held in New Delhi tomorrow.
The talks were scheduled yesterday, but due to absence of Mr Phukan, the talks were postponed to Friday.
Meanwhile, Mr Phukan left here and is expected to be in the national capital by tonight, said Ms Goswami over phone from New Delhi.
The ULFA representatives are expected to meet Union Home Secretary V K Duggal tomorrow afternoon. ''Rebati is reaching tonight and then we will fix appointments,'' added Ms Goswami.
''The road to peace is full of hurdles. You have to be patient,'' she said.
The ULFA had been demanding release of its five jailed leaders.
''The most important point is that Asom is free of violence as on date and it should continue. The Independance Day celebration was incident free,'' Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said.
