North Eastern Region reels under heat wave
Guwahati, Aug 17 (UNI) The entire NE Region is reeling under a heat wave like situation as the region has recorded four degree censius to seven degrees above normal temperature over the past one week.
Metereological stations here said day temperature in all stations in the region were reported to be much higher than the normal, ranging between four degrees and seven degrees above the normal. There was also a considerable gap between the maximum and minimum temperature leading to discomfort to the people of this region.
One person died of heat wave in the city yesterday.
Asom has recorded a deficit in rainfall to about thirty per cent till now.
Nineteen districts of the state have been affected by the drought like situation in the state where the farmers have abondoned the agricultural activities due to deficit rainfall. The rainfed paddy fields going dry due to deficit monsoon rains.
The state government has decided to waive off the land revenue to the farmers of the affected districts for a year.
The government have also declared a special one week summer vacation to all the educational institutions of the state starting from today as several students reportedly fainted due to severe heat.
Over 4 lakhs farm families have been affected due to the drought like situation in the state. The paddy in over 4 lakhs hectres land have also been affected.
State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has reviewed the situation and asked the officials of the concerned departments to give relief to the farmers of the affected districts.
