Next "Banga Sammelan" to be held at Michigan, US

Kolkata, Aug 17 (UNI) The 2007 ''Banga Sammelan'' will be held next year from June 29 to July one at The Cobo Arena in Detroit Michigan, North US.

After the kickoff meeting here today for the 27th annual North American Bengali Conference (NABC), non-profit Bengali organisation president Dr Jayanta Hazra said the theme of NABC 2007 is ''Progotir Pathe... Towards Parogress.'' It would highlight the achievements of Bengalis all over the world and celebrate art, culture, tradition and the society.

NABC 2007's objective is to encourage and support the spirit of excellence among the people of Bengal, while showcasing all aspects of Bengali culture through various performing and visual arts such as music, dance, drama, as well as seminars in business, literature, health and social issues, he said.

Mr Hazra also said that people of Bengal, who migrated to new lands, with a passion to nourish their roots and ancestral heritage, could ignite inspiration and lay the path to even higher levels of progress in the global community.

He said the core purpose of NABC 2007 is to encourage and support the spirit of creativity and excellence that are integral to Bengal's tradition.

''We are expecting that 20,000 participants will attend the function which is 6,000 more than the previous year,'' he added.

Left Front Chairman Biman Bose state Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta and California based NRI businessman Rahul Roy also spoke on the occasion.
