More water may flow into Golden Bridge area

Bharuch, Aug 17 (UNI) With the water-level in the Saradar Sarovar on the Narmada river rising by five metres above the danger mark (124.5 m), the authorities have decided to release about 4.5-5 lakh cusecs of water from the dam by this evening.

With the release of surplus water from the dam, the areas around the Golden Bridge that links Bharuch and Ankleshwar, could be flooded, said District Collector Dr S Murlikrishna here today.

Currently, the water-level at the bridge is 24.5 feet and could rise to 28 ft, he said.

The residents in Sarfuddin and Khalabia villages in Ankleshwar taluka have already been evacuated. Alert has also been sounded in Dandia baazar and Furzah area of Bharuch, he added.
