Monsoon plays truant in Punjab, Haryana
Chandigarh, Aug 17 (UNI) Monsoon played truant in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Union Territory and sultry weather conditions persisted in the plains even as parts of Himachal Pradesh had scanty rain during the past 24 hours.
With the lull in rainfall activity, hot and humid weather conditions prevailed at most places in Punjab.
Sultry weather conditions continued in Haryana where major towns reported no rainfall today. However, Kalka recorded 4.0 mm rain till this morning.
Parts of Himachal Pradesh were lashed by rain overnight. The capital town of Shimla was lashed by rain last night and this afternoon. Kalpa measured 1.1 mm, Pandoh 2.0 mm and Rampur 7.3 mm.
Moderate to heavy rain occurred in Kullu district. Solang Nullah recorded 38.4 mm and Bhang-Manali in the district 3.2 mm rainfall.
Dhundi reported 24.3 mm downpour.
Hot and humid weather conditions prevailed in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas of Punjab and Haryana in the absence of rain.
The Weather Office predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at few places in Himachal Pradesh and light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.
