Major tragedy averted in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 17 (UNI) Security forces today averted a major tragedy when they detected and later defused a three-kg powerful improvised explosive device (IED) planted by militants at Zainakote, about 12 km from here.

Official sources said a patrol party noticed an abandoned kerosene oil stove on the roadside at Zainakote.

The entire area was sealed and those present there were taken to safety after a bomb disposal squad was summoned.

Later, three kg IED planted inside the stove was defused by the squad, sources said adding the IED was planted to target security force vehicles.
