Lorry owners complain of harassment from check-post officials

Anaparthy, East Godavari, Aug 17 (UNI) Anaparthi Permit Lorry Owners Association President Medapati Sura Reddy today alleged that check-post officials on the Andhra-Orissa border were harassing lorry drivers in the name of collecting tax.

Mr Reddy told UNI that all the lorries plying with goods to West Bengal and Bihar had to cross the Orissa border.

Despite Orissa government's Transport Commissioner abolishing mechanical tax of Rs 2400 per trip, the check-post officials were collecting the amount in one form or the other, putting the owners and lorry drivers to lot of hardship, he alleged.

He said compound fees were collected at four border checkposts- Girisola, Kerada, Gammisola and Jaleswari.

Mr Reddy urged the Orissa government to allow the lorry owners to run their business without any harassment from the check-post officials.
