Lebanon troops cross Litani to deploy in S Lebanon
KHARDALI, Lebanon, Aug 17 (Reuters) Lebanese troops crossed the Litani River to deploy in south Lebanon today in line with a UN resolution that halted 34 days of fighting between Israel and Hizbollah, a Reuters witness said.
Dozens of trucks, armoured troop carriers and jeeps crossed the river, some 20 km north of Israel, on the Khardali bridge, Reuters correspondent Yara Bayoumy said. The UN resolution calls for the Lebanese army and a beefed-up UN take full control of the area to stop Hizbollah menacing Israel.
