Heavy rains to lash in next 48 hours: IMD
Pune, Aug 17 (UNI) Heavy rains are likely to occur in Maharashtra and its neighbouring states in the next 48 hours following a depression 100 km west of Raipur, according to Indian Meterological Department (IMD) officials.
Deputy Director (General Meteorology - Weather Forecasting) R R Lele told UNI that due to the depression over Chhattisgarh, heavy rains are expected in Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Konkan, Goa and East Madhya Pradesh.
''There is no sign of rains lessening in the next two days owing to the depression,'' she said.
Meanwhile, the rains have continued to lash the city and its suburbs. However, the situation is very much under control, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Flood Control Cell sources said.
By afternoon, about 28,534 cusecs water was released from Khadakvasla dam, they added.
The vehicular traffic was smooth between Pune and Mumbai, though a little slow due to the rains, Highway police said.
