Haryana exempts VAT on dhaba food, papad, havan samagri
Chandigarh, Aug 17 (UNI) The Haryana government today exempted some commodities, including dhaba food, from VAT and slashed it on certain other products like desi ghee, processed meat and poultry items.
The commodities exempted from VAT were food served at dhabas, papad and hawan samgri being sold in sealed packets or containers, an official spokesman said today after a cabinet meeting in which the decision was taken.
The items on which VAT was reduced from 12.5 per cent to four per cent included desi ghee, candles, processed meat, poultry and fish.
The decision would cost an estimated Rs 22 crore on the state exchequer.
The move followed a number of representations received by the government from the traders from time to time, the spokesman said.
