Mahatma Gandhi statue damaged in MP

Guna (MP), Aug 17: The Congress has threatened to launch an agitation if strict action was not taken against those who damaged a roughly 50-year-old statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Ashok Nagar.

''The statue was covered and construction of a clocktower begun over it. As a result, the Father of the Nation's 'lathi', arm and left foot were damaged,'' said Ashok Nagar District Congress President Dharmendra Chaudhry.

Squarely blaming the municipal corporation, Mr Chaudhry demanded that a case be registered and a new statue installed. Several persons are staging a demonstration in Ashok Nagar today in support of these demands.
