Five washed away in flood waters

Jeypore, Orissa, Aug 17 (UNI) Five people, including General Manager of Orissa Milk Federation(OMFED) for the undivided Koraput division B K Jena, were washed away in the flood waters of river Mahulbhata about 100 kms from here last night.

Police said Mr Jena along with three women supervisors were returning from Raighar to Jeypore in a jeep when the mishap occurred.

The driver of the vehicle wanted to cross a culvert when flood waters of Mahulbhata, a tributary of Tel river, suddenly surged and washed away all the occupants of the vehicle.

Fire brigade personnel from Umerkote and police rushed to the site on being informed about the incident, to launch the rescue operation but failed to trace the jeep and the five occupants, including the driver.

The district authority has alerted all the police stations on the downstream of the river to search for the missing people and the vehicle.
