Eleven arrested for rioting in Mumbai

Mumbai, Aug 17 (UNI) Police arrested 11 people including eight women on charges of rioting and manhandling officers of the economically weaker sections' (EWS) association near Pantnagar area of Ghatkopar Eastern suburb.

Police here said 11 people allegedly had a quarrel with an office bearer of the EWS association yesterday over the issue of slum re-development authority (SRA) scheme in their locality. The quarrel turned violent and the people allegedly assaulted some officers of EWS association and ransacked their offices.

The arrested have been identified as - Shobha Kharat (38), Vasanti Vasant Bhalerao (55), Shobha Maruti Mane (52), Vanita Jaisingh Dhuri (25), Meena Wadia (38), Vanita Eknath Patil (42), Radhika Bhagwan (44), Kalpana Dhanaji Varia (43), Maruti Naik (53), R M Vora (52) and Suresh Dhanaji Varia (43).

Further investigations are on, police added.
