Discharge from Prakasam slightly increased

Vijayawada, Aug 17 (UNI) The discharge of water from Prakasam barrage on Krishna river here slightly increased this morning. About 5.50 lakh cusecs of flood water was let out from the barrage into the sea.

The present discharge was 12,000 cusecs higher than the yesterday's discharge besides letting out 17,860 cusecs of water from the barrage into the irrigation canals.

Huge quantity of water is being released from Srisailam and from there to Nagarjunasagar reservoir due to heavy rains in the catchment areas of Karnataka and Maharashtra. The discharge at upstream Nagarjunasagar dam was 5 lakh cusecs this morning, irrigation sources said.

The water level at Prakasam barrage stood at 14.7 ft today, the sources added.
