Delhi to get Monorail soon: Transport Minister

New Delhi, Aug 17: Delhi Government is evaluating tenders received for its ambitious monorail project and will finalise the bids within a week, Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf said.

''We also have to decide whether the project has to be executed on BoT basis, on public-private partnership or by the Government,'' he said.

The project would take care of the transport requirements in densely populated areas of the capital where the Delhi Metro has not reached, he said.

The government estimate is that it would cost Rs 40-45 crore to build a km of monorail, 48 kms of which is planned in the first phase.

The project is expected to be completed before commencement of Commonwealth Games in 2010.

The Minister said prefabricated pillars of one square metre diameter could be erected on roads to support the new system.
