'Curfew' affecting livelihood: fishermen's association
Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu Aug 17 (UNI) Five thousand fishermen were affected following the 'undeclared curfew' imposed in the prestigious Atomic Power Installation at Kalpakkam near here.
Official sources had said the 'curfew' would continue to be in force from 1800 hrs to 0600 hrs within the 200 m radius of the nuclear establishments.
The security had been tightened with 2,000 policemen manning the installation. Fishermen were instructed not to venture into the sea and the ban continued till August 21.
Kalpakkam Fishermen Association Secretary Dhanasakeran alleged that due to tight security the people were finding it difficult to move around freely. They were also facing problem in purchasing essential commodities from markets. Orders for 'shoot at sight' were in force if fishermen ventured into the sea, he added.
