Commercial Tax Officer in ACB net

Hyderabad, Aug 17 (UNI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths today arrested a Commercial Tax Officer at Eluru in West Godavari district when she demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs two lakh from the complainant for doing an official favour.

A release from the ACB said here J Vasavi demanded the amount from a jewellery owner shop for not imposing any fine and returning the documents seized by her. The tainted amount was recovered from her room.

An amount of Rs.5.50 lakh and gold and silver ornaments worth Rs five lakh were also seized from her residence. Further search were continuing, the release said adding that the officer would be produced before the Special Judge for ACB cases, Vijayawada.

The ACB officials also searched the residence of her husband, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Devarakonda, and recovered a cash of Rs 5.50 lakh, the release added.
