Clijsters pulls out of Montreal with wrist injury

MONTREAL, Aug 17 (Reuters) World number two Kim Clijsters has withdrawn from the Rogers Cup event in Montreal with a wrist injury, the tournament's website said.

Less than two weeks before the Belgian starts the defence of her US Open crown, Clijsters retired while leading Canada's Stephanie Dubois 6-1 2-3 in her second-round match yesterday.

Clijsters, the defending champion in Montreal, called for the trainer when she was leading the second set 2-1 but when she fell in game six she decided to retire from the match.

The US Open starts in New York on August 28.
