Chappell on CA's list of possible replacements for Buchanan

Sydney, Aug 17 (UNI) Team India coach Greg Chappell is one of the coaches who will get a call from Cricket Australia (CA) as they begin their search for a replacement for John Buchanan, whose contract expires after next year's World Cup.

According to a report in the Herald-Sun, the Aussie, currently on tour of Sri Lanka with the Indian team, is likely to be contacted by CA as they start looking for Buchanan's successor next month.

However, the favourites for the job are likely to be Tim Neilson and Tom Moody, who is with the Sri Lankans right now. Neilson is reportedly a players' favourite and has the backing of Buchanan as well after the former wicket-keeper worked as an assistant with him.

Buchanan is almost certain to bid adieu to the job after being the Aussie coach for eight years and the likely replacements will be discussed by CA's sub-committee comprising national selector Allan Border and former captain Mark Taylor.

The current Australian captain, Ricky Ponting is also likely to have a major say in the choice of the new coach.

Aaprt from Chappell, the other Aussies likely to be contacted by CA are West Indies coach Bennett King and Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore.

The board is in favour of announcing a new coach by February next year so that the transition of responsibilty is carried out smoothly after the World Cup.
