BSNL union observes fast

Pondicherry, Aug 17 (UNI) The United forum of BSNL union today observed a fast in front of the office of the general manager to press their demands.

They were demanding, among other things, reimbursement of funds deducted towards group insurance, filling up of vaccant posts, provision of promotions and regularisation of casual workers.

Meanwhile, Members of the building construction workers association affiliated to the AITUC took out a procession from Rajiv Gandhi square to the labour welfare department and held a demonostration to press their demands.

They were demanding provision of free house site pattas to landless construction workers,provision of red colour ration card to construction workers and loan facility to them to construct houses.

The construction workers affiliated to the CITU took out a seperate procession from Indiara Gandhi square to the labour welfare department and held a demonstration demanding regularisation of the price for construction materials,enhancement of the pension for construction workers from Rs.500 to Rs.1000 per month and provision of Rs.five crore for Construction Workers Welfare Board by the government.
