BJP demands Chief Minister Pawan Chamling's resignation

Gangtok, Aug 17 (UNI) Sikkim unit of the BJP today demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on moral grounds in the wake of a disproportionate assests case admitted against him in the Supreme Court.

Party General Secretary C B Chettri demanded that the Chief Minister should resign in the aftermath of the disproportionate case admitted in the apex court.

The Supreme Court admitted a case against the Chief Minister on Monday on a petition filed by the Congress party in July this year.

The Congress party in its petition had alleged that the Chief Minister misused his power and amassed assests worth Rs 15.38 crore which is disproportionate to his known source of income.

Inspite of huge allocation of central funds, no developmental activites took place in the state and the central government also failed to keep a track of funds released to the state since 1995-96, the party alleged and prayed the court will issue a direction to the authorities to order a CBI inqury.

Mr Chettri also criticised the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front government for its failure to keep its committment to decentralise power and to adhere to the policy of one man one post.

He said Mr Chamling holds both the Party President's post and the Post of Chief Minister even after the party was in power for 12 years.
