Anand limping back to normalcy
Ahmedabad, Aug 17 (UNI) More than 1,272 people have been evacuated from 12 villages of Tarapur taluka and three villages of Khambhat taluka in Anand district following floods in the area.
Besides, 12 camps have been set up in Tarapur to accommodate the evacuees while three have been set up at Khambhat. With three lakh cusec water flowing into Sabarmati river, Pandar village in Khambat taluka, too, has been flooded and many had to be evacuated to Khambat camp. With 1,272 people being evacuated yesterday, in all 22,020 people have been evacuated in the district in the last three days.
In the last 24 hours till 0800 hrs today, the district has recorded only 59 mm rains, according to flood control sources in Anand.
Sources said the district is limping back to normalcy as these 16 villages where food and water packets were air-dropped in the last three days have their road links reopened today. Relief materials on dumper trucks are being sent to the villages and telephone links have also been restored. Overall, Anand district has received 724.1 cms of rains so far.
