Weather office warns possible cyclone threat in AP
Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 16 (UNI) The situation in the rain and flood battered North Coastal districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam might worsen as reports have come of an impending cyclone.
The report from Cyclone Warning Center said the low pressure formed over north Bay of Bengal off Orissa-West Bengal coast was likely to move in west-northwesterly direction and cross north Orissa-West Bengal Coast between Paradip and Digha by tonight or tomorrow in the early hours.
The report said under the influence of the low pressure, widespread heavy rainfall was likely over north Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Squally winds with speed reaching 50-60 kmph was likely along and off Orissa- West Bengal coast adjoining the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh during next 24 hours.
It said sea conditions would be rough along and off Orissa-West Bengal coast.
The district administrations along the state coast had advised fishermen not to venture into the sea.
Alert had been sounded in Visakhapatnam, Vodarevu and Machilipatnam ports.
Rain and thundershowers were likely at many places over north Coastal Andhra Pradesh. More rain was likely over Telangana from tomorrow, the report added.
