'Undeclared curfew' at Kalpakkam to be in force till Aug 20
Chennai, Aug 16 (UNI) The 'undeclared curfew' in the prestigious atomic power installation at Kalpakkam near here will be in force till August 20, police said today.
The unprecedented security measures were put in place on the eve of Independence Day celebrations in the wake of intelligence reports warning of terror attacks at vital installations in the country.
Kancheepuram District Deputy Superintendent of Police Soundararajan said though normal life remained unaffected in Kalpakkam, the 1800 hrs to 0600 hrs 'curfew' in 200 m radius of the nuclear installations would be in force till August 20.
Kalpakkam houses the two units of MAPS, the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research and the 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor, which was under construction.
However, other police sources speaking on condition of anonymity, said the 'curfew' would be in place till the month end.
