Tribal dies, policemen injured in clash
Ranchi, Aug 16 (UNI) A tribal youth died and five policemen were injured in a clash at Rock garden, a tourist spot in the state capital, about one kilometre from the chief minister's residence.
The incident occurred last night when a few adivasi youths attacked the old building of Gonda police station after having a quarrel with the security forces deputed at the Rock garden.
Police fired in defence in which the youth died. Five policemen were also injured in the clash.
Suprintendent of Police Akhilesh Kumar Jha today said a group of tribal youths had a skirmish with the private security guards, deputed at the Rock garden demanding subscription for the Karma festival, in which one guard and three youths got injured.
Mr Jha said police rushed to the spot and the injured were admitted to hospital.
He said agitated over the incident a mob attacked the old premises of Gonda police station and tried to snatch rifles forcing the police to fire a few rounds. A 40-year-old tribal died in the firing and five policemen were injured.
The injured were rushed to RIMS, three among them were serious.
Four policemen, including officer in-charge of Gonda police station, have been suspended.
The district administration had announced a compensation of Rs five lakh and a government job for the victim's family.
