Rupee strong by four paise closes at Rs 46.58/USD

Mumbai, Aug 16 (UNI) Indian Rupee today grew strong by four paise to close at Rs 46.58 per US Dollar compared to the previous close of Rs 46.62 per US Dollar, a trader in the money market said.

The gain was triggered by easing of the crude oil price and also by the strong performance on the Sensex, a money market trader here said.

Earlier, Rupee opened at Rs 46.54/56 per US Dollar and in the mid morning session traded at 46.54/55/US Dollar.

RBI today fixed the Reference Rate at Rs 46.55/US Dollar compared to the previous rate of 46.56 per US Dollar.

The six month forward premia was fixed high at 1.35 per cent and the one year forward premia was also fixed high at 1.32 per cent.

The Rupee performance against other currencies however was not so good, against euro it was down at Rs 59.71 (59.27), against pound sterling it was down at Rs 88.30 ( 87.91) and, against yen it was down at Rs 40.10 (40.00).
