Patiala, Aug 16 (UNI) Punjab is considering to invest in a nuclear power plant in Rajasthan, being set up by the Nuclear Power Corporation, in anticipation of getting clean power from the upcoming mega project.

Punjab has been offered a share in the new 700-MW nuclear plant at Narora in Rajasthan if the state will invest in the project, PSEB Member (Distribution) J S Sekhon here said.

A share of 50 per cent in the new nuclear power plant at Narora in Rajasthan would entail an investment of Rs 1,400 crore for the Punjab State Electricity Board, representing Punjab, and an equal amount by the Nuclear Power Corporation, he told UNI.

Once the plant comes up, Punjab will also get a share of 350 MW, as its 50 per cent share in the 700-MW project. This will be the seventh power unit at the Narora Power plant site, he added.

The Rajasthan government has already got its share in other units at the Narora power project site and does not propose to add its investment in the new units being put up there. Thus, the Nuclear Power Corporation has offered Punjab a share of nuclear power supply in case it invested in the new power units, Mr Sekhon said.
