Land to surrendered NLFT rebels for rehabilation

Agartala, Aug 16: All kinds of administrative work has been completed in order to distribute land to the surrendered 70 families of National Liberation Front of Tripura (Mantu koloi-Kamini Group) as per the tri-partite agreement for their rehabilitation.

According to official sources, the Tribal Welfare Department has identified land for rehabilitation of NLFT(NB) and other surrendered outfits rebels and sent the list to the state government.

After getting the cabinet's approval, this land will be distribution to them.

On April 15, 2004, in all 102 NLFT rebels belonging to KMK groups laid down arms and returned to mainstream after a tri-partite accord with the Union Government, state government officials and the underground groups. Follwing that accord, the Tribal Welfare Department has arranged land for the families. They would get around two acres of land.

For this purpose all kind of administrative works has been completed and necessary clearance has been taken in case the land was under Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

The Department also selected 1059 hectare of lands in all the four districts of the state for rehabilitation to the NLFT(NB) and other groups of surrendered militants. The land was allotted by the Agriculture department of the state following the Tribal Welfare Department's appeal. The union forest ministry had disagreed to approve for forest land within reserved area and the state government was forced to appeal to the agriculture department.

The 1059 acre of land would be distributed once the cabinet approval came, sources added.
