Mettur Dam copious inflow from K'taka reservoirs

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 16: The storage in the Stanley Reservoir at Mettur across River Cauvery is steadily increasing following heavy inflows from the Karnataka reservoirs.

PWD sources told sources here that the water level in the dam, the lifeline of delta farmers stood at 112.520 ft this morning, against its full capacity of 120 ft. The inflow into the reservoir was 62,407 cusecs. If the present trend continued for the next few days, the dam would reach its full capacity shortly, they said.

Meanwhile, the discharge from the reservoir was increased to 20,000 cusecs, since last evening from 18,000 cusecs, following demand from the ryots.

From Grand Anaicut in Thanjavur District, about 8051 cusecs of water was let out into River Cauvery, 2,433 cusecs into Vennar, 3,004 cusecs into Grand Anaicut Canal and 1,505 cusecs into Coleroon River for irrigation needs, the sources added.
