Kolkata, Aug 16 (UNI) The Left Front today demanded a 'real' investigation into the death of Soumik Basu, a third year student of Bengal Engineering and Science University(BESU).

Basu died on August 9 after falling from the college balcony during a students' union clash a few days earlier.

''We do not trust the reports by the BESU's Principal or Howrah police.Hence the state government should look into the matter and investigate properly the incident,'' Left Front Chairman Biman Bose told newspersons after a Front meeting.

''We condemn the incident and demand a real investigation and punishment to the culprits,'' he added.

Stressing on the need for campus politics, Mr Bose decried that some people were trying to destablise the concept for their own interest.

''The state government and the college authorities need to be more vigilant and should frame rules to prempt such unfortunate incidents.

Such incidents should not recur,'' he said.

Answering a query on the cola controversy he said, ''a report prepared by the West Bengal Pollution Control board had found marginal pesticide contamination.'' To another question he said the Left parties would centrally organise martyr's day to commemorate the 'food movement' on August 31.

He also said they would organise "human chain" for five minutes--from 1340 to 1345 hours--on September one throughout the state to protest Isreal's attack on Lebanon.

''We have also instructed all the district Front committees to organise the human chain and build up several martyrs' pillars throughout the district,'' he added.
