Janmastami celebrated with gaiety

Kolkata, Aug 16 (UNI) Birth of Lord Krishna was celebrated across the state with much religious fervour and gaiety, amid tight security.

'Janmashtami' was celebrated in almost every home in the city, with the traditional form of 'Jhulan' where Lord Krishna is being placed on a swing and worshipped in his infant form 'Bal Gopal'.

Meanwhile, tight security arrangements were made around the big temples like Birla Mandir in South Kolkata and Ram Mandir in Central Kolkata, besides the busy Burrabazar area where the festival is celebrated with much pomp and grandeur.

A liberal deployment of policemen has been noticed around all religious monuments and temples, with security threat looming large over the country.

In certain parts of the city 'kirtan', devotional songs in praise of Lord Krishna, was organised to celebrate the day.
