Janmashtami celebrated in Punjab, Haryana, HP

Chandigarh, Aug 16 (UNI) People in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh today celebrated 'Janmashtami', the birthday of Lord Krishna, with traditional enthusiasm and religious fervour.

Thousands of people visited temples amidst heavy security arrangements in Punjab and Haryana and in the Union territory of Chandigarh.

Children in colourful attires presented cultural and religious performances, while bhajans and discourses on Lord Krishna were organised in decorated temples across the region.

The Sector 23 'Sanathan Dharma Mandir' was tha main attraction in the city here where the devotees waited in long queues to pay obeisance to Lord Krishna's idol.

Reports of celebrating 'Janmashtami' also poured in from Jalandhar, Patiala and Amritsar in Punjab, Kurukshetra, Karnal and Panipat in Haryana and Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Chamba, Una and Kangra in Himachal Pradesh.
