Janmashtami celebrated in Manipur with gaiety
Imphal, Aug 16 (UNI) Manipur today celebrated Janmashtami with great pomp and gaiety.
Manipur has a huge Hindu population of Vaishnavite cult and Lord Krishna is an important diety with the religious and cultural activities of Manipuris revolving around Lord Krishna.
Renowned classical Manipuri dance is woven around the life of Lord Krishna as evident in the Raas Leela performances.
The Shri Shri Govindajee temple was the centre of all activities today. Hundreds of devotees waited for their turn to catch a glimpse of the Lord at the temple premises at Imphal.
The festival will continue till midnight.
Special security arrangements have been made in view of the huge crowd.
The festival was also organised in a grand manner at the complex of the ISKCON temple here.
