Indefinite curfew imposed in border town
Imphal, Aug 16 (UNI) Indefinite curfew was imposed at Moreh, the border town of Manipur's Chandel district, after violence erupted this morning.
Officials said the district administration imposed indefinite curfew from today apprehending violence.
International trade between India and Myanmar came to a grinding halt owing to the curfew.
Police said trouble erupted after unknown persons burnt a Maruti car at Moreh. The incident followed the shooting down of Sunil Agarwal, president of the All Manipur Students' Union, Chandel unit, on August 12. He was allegedly shot dead by Kuki militants.
Once his body was found dead the situation turned tense in the border areas. The powerful student body and other organisations have announced a series of agitations to protest Sunil's killing.
Meanwhile, various Kuki organisations have declared that they will join in the stir launched by the AMSU.
