Govt should take ADGP's disclosure seriously: Chandy
Palakkad, Aug 16 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Oommen Chandy said the government should seriously act on the disclosure made by Additional Director General of Police Jacob Punnose that a strong mafia with an investment of about Rs 50,000 crore was active in the state.
Addressing a public meeting at Kizhakkancherry near here last night, he said that in the wake of the revelation, the government should make it clear whether the ''mafia'' has any connection with the custodial deaths.
Mr Chandy said that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government should provide adequate compensation to the kin of those who died in police custody.
When the United Democratic Front (UDF) was in power, it had provided compensation to Udayakumar, who died in police custody, he pointed out.
