Washington, Aug 16 (UNI) Former US President Gerald Ford was today admitted to Mayo Clinic to undergo unspecified ''testing and evaluation''.

According to a release issued by Mr Ford's office, the 93-year-old former chief executive was admitted today but disclosed little else about the reason for his hospital stay.

The clinic in Rochester, about 75 miles southeast of Minneapolis, offered no additional details.

He had spent a few days in Colorado's Vail Valley Medical Center last month because of breathing problems. In January, he was hospitalised for 12 days in Rancho Mirage for pneumonia.

About five years ago, he had suffered two small strokes and spent about a week in a hospital.

Mr Ford was House minority leader when President Richard Nixon chose him to replace the resigned Spiro Agnew as vice-president in 1973. He became the President on August 9 1974, when Mr Nixon resigned amid the Watergate scandal.
