Former Minister Chandrashekaran passes away
Kochi, Aug 16 (UNI) Former Minister K Chandrashekaran died at a private hospital here after a prolonged illness last night.
Eighty three-year-old Chandrasekharan was admitted to the hospital on June 11 following infection in the legs, hospital sources said.
A bachelor, Mr Chandrasekharan was unconscious for the past few days, sources said.
A leader of the erstwhile Janata Dal, Chandrashekaran was the Law and Revenue Minister in the Pattam Thanu Pillai Ministry in the early 1960s and was the Education Minister in 1987 and 1991 in the Left Democratic Front-led ministries.
He was first elected to the Assembly from Hosdurg Assembly constituency in 1957. He was also a Rajya Sabha member between 1967 and 1977.
As a mark of respect to the departed leader, the state government has declared a holiday for all educational institutions today.
The cremation will be held at Thrikkakara.
