Flextronics to begin India operations soon: Maran

Chennai, Aug 16: Flextronics, a global electronics manufacturing service provider, will begin manufacturing operations at its Rs 450-crore facility at Sriperumbudur near here in a couple of months, Union Communication and Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran said today.

Talking to reporters after a meeting with Flextronics Asia President and Managing Director Pater Tan and company Director-India Operations A Gururaj at his Gopalapuram residence here, he said the company would employ 2,000 people in the first phase and added about 5,000 would get jobs over the next three years.

The company would manufacture mobile handsets, set top boxes and telecom infrastructure equipment at the Sriperumbudur facility.

Mr Maran expressed hope that Flextronics' investment in Tamil Nadu would throw up opportunity to attract more number of manufacturing service providers to the state.

He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi would be invited for the launch function.
